Comerica Park worker charged with felony after spitting on pizzaSeptember 25, 2018 5:05pm

A Comerica Park food service worker has been charged after a video showed him spitting on a pizza at a concession stand during Friday's game between the Tigers and Royals.

The Wayne County prosecutor's office on Tuesday announced 20-year-old Jaylon Kerley of Detroit has been charged with a felony count of food law violations that is punishable by up to four years in jail and a misdemeanor count of food law violations that is punishable by up to 90 days in jail.

Kerley was fired and arrested on Sunday after a video of him spitting on pizza dough before covering it with sauce was posted on Instagram.

According to WJBK-TV, Kerley told a 17-year-old coworker Quinell May he was "irritated" and intended to spit in the food. May pulled out his camera for evidence and claimed Kerley didn't care he was being recorded.

May later said he was wrongfully terminated for exposing Kerley.

"At first I said I had to use the bathroom but I was actually looking for someone higher in management to tell about what was happening to the pizzas and show the video, and when I came back they said, 'You took too long at the bathroom. Sign out and go home,'" May said.

Kerley's arraignment is expected to take place Tuesday.
